Eddie Murphy had been scheduled to host the 2012 Academy Awards ceremony. Bu the Tower Heist actor resigned from the telecast just one day after producer Brett Ratner left due to controversy surrounding his use of a gay slur.

Who would replace Murphy as Oscars host? A twitter account and website had appeared online putting forward Jim Henson's Muppets as candidates. Now, a campaign has been launched via Twitter to see the Muppets as hosts of the 2012Academy Awards.
The Muppet screenwriter Nick Stoller has now given his approval to the proposed gig.

"I'd totally be on board. You could have The Electric Mayhem as the house band! As long as you're not doing crazy, high production stuff."
"The Muppets are a guy under a chair. You need a chair with a hole in it. If you try to do a bi musical number, that's where things start to get tricky. And the puppeteers are really good at improvising things if they need to do that."
